North London - north of the River Thames London N1 begins north of the River in the Islington area of London and extends north into Greater London and leafier suburbs of Golders Green, Hendon, Edgware and Mill Hill - all familiar station names on the Northern Line underground system.
These parts of London as many others have become associated with various ethnic groups, for example a stroll down a street in Golders Green, Edgware or Mill Hill will reveal the Jewish Comminity in their best black togs heading for the Synagogue.
A detour to Burnt Oak near Edgware reveals a high street dominated by shops selling African foods and vegetables, whereas some parts of Wembley are known as 'little India'. All part of the colour of modern London.
Over the years, generations of Irish, Jamaican's and Poles have settled in the boroughs. It is sometimes difficult to discern which language is being spoken in the street.
North London's posh areas include Hampstead near the wide open spaces of the Heath, St. John's Wood. A trip to hear one of the open-air concerts staged beside the lake at kenwood House near Hampstead is a memorable experience and worth attempting if you get the opportunity.
